Baby Related

Before Baby, I picked the brains of a few of my already-a-mom friends to find out some new mom must haves. I'm sharing a few of mine here, just so I don't forget. Then, when someone comes to me asking for some of my motherly wisdom (ha) I will have something to impart.

JJ Cole Bundle Me- if you live in a cold climate, buy this. It will make your on-the-go lifestyle a little easier.

Cloth diapers- we use both gDiapers and prefolds (using Snappies & Thirsties covers). Washing them is simple. Diapers are washed every other day. I run a cold rinse cycle first, then do a hot wash with an extra rinse. I use the same detergent I use to wash our clothes, but only a teaspoon or so to help prevent detergent buildup stink. I put a few drops of tea tree oil in with the detergent as well. If there is buildup stink, I strip the gDiapers by boiling them for 30 minutes. (I've never had to strip the prefolds.) I'll also occasionally put a small amount of bleach when washing the diapers, but that's only when things get really stinky, which hasn't been often. Maybe only 3 times in the past 5 months.

Coconut Oil and/or Almond Oil- Great for diaper rash- a little goes a long way & they are cloth diaper safe!! Also a great skin moisturizer or massage oil for baby. Coconut oil cleared up a mild case of cradle cap for us, too! *I would give a disclaimer to use according to your best judgement if your baby has sensitive skin. Please test first to  rule out any allergy before applying all over.

Bella B Nurture Butter- breastfeeding mom's will definitely want this. Why this product? It's made from natural & organic ingredients, no animal by-products, and it's made in the USA!

I wish someone would have given me tips on how to prevent Mommy Thumb, or in medical terms deQuervain's tendinitis. After googling "pain in wrist" and visiting the doctor & occupational therapist, I find out the best way to heal is to rest the wrist, limiting movements that cause the pain. I also left my appointment with a wrist split to wear 24/7 for 6 weeks, and several handouts on better positions to hold the baby while nursing, carrying, burping, etc. If this is so common among new mothers, and the best medicine is prevention, why don't they give some tips while you're in the hospital? Or, maybe they did, but I just don't remember because those first few days...weeks...were so overwhelming. Anyways, this is something that I hope I remember to share with my new mom friends.

Who needs fancy baby food making equipment when you already have all the necessities in your kitchen? I have been making our baby food for the past 3 months and haven't needed to buy anything. Here are a few things I use:
-coffee/spice grinder
-immersion blender
-blender
-mini muffin tin
I am proud of being resourceful to use what we already have. And I love that I thought of this fun and  easy way to freeze & store the food for quick meals using mini muffin tins! yay :)
